IMPORTANT STEPS TO TAKE IF YOU ARE STAYING IN THE FHL LODGING

1) In June or July, we should learn the exact cottage at Friday Harbor Laboratories that is assigned to each of us. A non-refundable deposit for 25% of your lodging costs will be due to FHL. As soon as we email you your cottage info, call FHL and use your credit card to pay for 4 nights of your cottage (about $125 per night). Also pay the UW use fee of $9 per day per person for FHL for 4 days. NOTE: We cannot change or extend the four days we have booked for the FHL cottages (nights of Sept 15, 16, 17, and 18), so if you want to come to Friday Harbor early or stay later, you MUST find alternative lodging. They are not making any exceptions to this rule.
2) On or after April 22, 2025, make an advance booking for a ferry roundtrip on the NOON Monday Sept 15, 2025 car ferry from Anacortes, WA to Friday Harbor, WA. (Detailed Instructions Here.)
3) On Monday Sept 15, arrive at the Anacortes ferry terminal 45 minutes ahead of the departure and get in the waiting line for Friday Harbor. This probably means for most travelers that you will need to stay Sunday night in Anacortes. We suggest the Marina Inn, where you will need to reserve a room at least 2 months ahead. 4) The car ferry will arrive in Friday Harbor at 1:10 PM. Drive 2 blocks up Spring St to Kings Market and buy food that you may need for your cottage, such as cereal, milk, coffee, coffee filters, etc. (You also could buy any non-refrigerated food on Sunday evening in Anacortes.)
5) After shopping at Kings, drive 0.5 mi to FHL. Park in the lot by the Admin Building to get your cottage key and map between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Do not try to check in before 3:00 PM.
6) When you come onto campus, take your first right into the main parking lot. Walk across the bridge toward the Fernald Lab (main) building. Outside the double entrance doors, you’ll see a white lockbox to your left. Open the lockbox using the keypad code you will receive from jack or Kristine and look for a packet with your name on it.
7) Find your cottage or dorm room, and make sure you park in the designated lots.
8) Everyone should bring a small flashlight since the paths to the cottages are not well lit and most have gravel paths. Also, bring umbrellas "just in case".
