Bruce Snyder was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1945. He and Sallie Snyder were married in May of 1968, shortly before joining the Peace Corps and leaving for Chile. Bruce graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in fisheries and wildlife. He worked in fisheries programs in Chile and after returning to the US was selected for a fisheries research position in the State of Washington. Bruce was very active in conducting studies of the effects of pollution on endemic salmonid fish in the Northwest. He conducted important studies on the effects of crude-oil spills, dredging, pier lighting, Hood Canal construction activities, and other topics that helped to protect important environmental resources in the area. Some of his work was done in collaboration with other renowned fisheries scientists at UW including Dr. Ernest Salo. Bruce unfortunately passed away at a relatively young age (47) in February of 1993 in Sedro Woolley, WA. He is survived by his wife Sallie and his twin sons, Greg and Mark.
