Sunday, September 14, 2025 – TRAVEL DAY
Arrive in Seattle if flying and drive to Anacortes, WA to overnight before ferry to Friday Harbor

Monday, September 15, 2025. ARRIVAL DAY
Pick up supplies after arrival in Friday Harbor. Check in at Friday Harbor Labs after 3 PM, but before 7 PM.

Tuesday, September 16, 2025
Group picnic and walk at Lime Kiln Park.
Reunion Dinner #1 – 4:00 - 8:00 PM – Shipwreck Beach Tent, Roche Harbor Resort

Wednesday, September 17, 2025. FREE DAY
Optional activities include lunch at Roche Harbor, visit to Alpaca Farm and San Juan County Park, whale watching cruise, hiking. Dinner on your own.

Thursday, September 18, 2025
Optional activities include kayaking trip, visit to Westcott Bay Shellfish Farm, Alpaca Farm, Whale Museum
Reunion Dinner #2 - 3:30- 9:00 PM. San Juan Island Yacht Club

Sunday, September 14, 2025 – TRAVEL DAY
Be sure to have a ferry reservation (both ways) prior to leaving home. Make a reservation for the NOON sailing on Sept 15, 2025.

Fly to Seattle SEATAC airport, rent car, drive 2 hours north to Anacortes. Overnight at the Marina Inn, 3300 Commercial Ave., Anacortes,  https://www.marinainnwa.com/

Monday, September 15, 2025. ARRIVAL DAY.
Check in, (at least 45 min ahead of time), with your reservation at the ferry terminal. Take the NOON car ferry to San Juan Island (Friday Harbor).

Upon arrival at Friday Harbor, drive to King’s Market (160 Spring St.) to purchase food and other supplies for your lodging (all FHL lodging, except dorms, have kitchens). See map for parking options.

Check In at FHL – 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Get key from from lockbox or from Jack for your cabin.

Dinner – 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM – in the FHL Dining Hall (TBA, $26) – or buy King's Market take-out food to eat on Dining Hall Deck.

Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

9:00 AM – Tour of FHL (optional) TBA

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Lime Kiln State Park - Meet at Parking Lot X to carpool to Lime Kiln State Park (Map #) for short walk and boxed lunch on picnic tables. The Park has a lighthouse and displays of marine mammals. It is one of the best places on the island to see Orcas from land. John Menke and/or Jeff Brewick will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the various animals that frequent the area. If you didn’t preorder a boxed lunch, bring your own purchased food. Entrance fee is $10/car, so carpooling could save money.

Afternoon – 1:00 PM – 5:00PM.  Tour the island on your own, stopping at the English Camp, Sculpture Park and San Juan Vineyard if desired.

Note: The Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm is closed on Tuesdays and the Westcott Bay Shellfish Farm is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. You can visit the Alpacas on Wed. or Alpacas and/or Shellfish on Thursday.  See Map #7 of island.

Reunion Dinner #1 – 4:00 - 8:00 PM – Shipwreck Beach Tent BBQ,  Roche Harbor Resort.  Roche Harbor is about 20 minutes north of Friday Harbor.  Arrive early and walk around the Roche Harbor Resort marina, lime kilns, and garden. Walk over to Shipwreck Beach (next to the tennis courts) any time after 4 PM. Dinner at 5:30 PM.  There will be a cash bar for beer and wine.

Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

9:00 AM – Tour of FHL (if didn’t happen Tuesday).

For those not on the whale watching cruise:

10:30 AM –1:00 PM. Lunch at the Roche Harbor Resort. Meet at Parking Lot X to carpool. Two restaurants are available – The Lime Kiln Café or the Madrona Grill. Both have outdoor seating and views of the harbor. (This lunch is optional and not part of your reunion fee.)

After lunch, drive to the Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm (open 11–4) and then on to San Juan County Park for a beautiful view of the ocean. A snack and water will be provided at the picnic tables and shelter as we look for a passing Orca or two. See Map #

Optional Activities:

12:30 PM – 5 PM – Whale Watching Cruise with San Juan Safaris – details to come.

Hiking – see maps of trails – FHL Fire Trail

Dinner – On your own

Suggestions include the Madrona Grill (Roche Harbor), Downrigger, Coho Restaurant, Friday Harbor House or the island's most expensive restaurant, Duck Soup (reservations required). Many more places in all price ranges can be found in the list of restaurants provided.

Thursday, September 18, 2025

Breakfast and lunch on your own. Reunion Dinner #2 (catered at the San Juan Yacht Club) is provided.

Optional activities:

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM – San Juan Outfitters Kayaking.  They may be able to pick us up at FHL and and take us to their Roche Harbor Docks, or you can drive there on your own. See this link - Details to follow.

Westcott Bay Shellfish Farm. Open 1-4 PM for lunch (reservations required) or just visit the farm. There is no charge to visit.

Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm and Store – open 11 AM – 4 PM

Also, Fairweather Park is next to the Yacht Club and is a great place to sit and chat before the Reunion Dinner, watch the ferries, and check out the boats in the harbor.

Reunion Dinner #2 - 4:00- 9:00 PM. San Juan Island Yacht Club. Dinner will be at 5:30 PM. We’ll need a few helpers to set up the tables and chairs.  Beer and alcohol won’t be served or allowed as it would require a hired bartender and permit. We’ll have plenty of water though.

Friday, September 19, 2025. CHECK-OUT DAY.

Check out by 11 AM. If you are leaving the island today, be sure you have made a return ferry reservation. There is no charge for the return trip. See the Ferry Schedules for departure times.

COSTS PER PERSON:

            $145 per person for all Reunion activities except lodging

Includes 3 meals (Tuesday and Thursday catered dinners and 1 boxed lunch (Tuesday)

            Boxed lunches need to be preordered prior to arrival.

Not Included:  All breakfasts, Monday Dinner, Wednesday Lunch and Dinner, and Thursday Lunch. State Park entry fees ($10-$11/car)

Friday Harbor Laboratories Notes:

Friday Harbor Laboratories allows the consumption of alcohol only in the cabins. No alcohol should be consumed anywhere on the grounds or common areas.

The cottages are equipped with the following:

Sheets
Blankets
Pillows
Toilet paper (initial supply only)
Dish soap
Bath soap
Sponge/dish towel
Coffee maker (10 cup)
Microwave
Stove
Full-sized refrigerator
Toaster

Any other supplies you may need such as a hair dryer, paper towels, spices, coffee filters, coffee, tea, etc. should be purchased at the local market or brought from home.

Be sure to bring binoculars, an umbrella, a flashlight, clothing for possible rainy/chilly weather, and extra shoes that can get wet if you are going kayaking.

Dining Hall: Dining Hall meals are not available for us as we are not on the daily “meal plan.” It cannot accommodate drop-ins or reservations for occasional meals

The tables in the dining hall are available to us for meeting or eating a snack you bring with you. It won’t be possible to purchase food in the dining hall. Students and faculty who are on the meal plan take precedence with seating. We may use the Dining Hall deck and the deck at the Commons for group gatherings.

A “coffee service” is available for $5/day. This includes all types beverages served in the Dining Hall during the day and evening.
