Jim Griffith worked on Chilean Forestry programs involving Forest fire control. He continued in the forestry field after the PC. Jim writes: “Because my program focus was forestry, this enabled me to successfully apply for graduate work in forestry at University of Washington after Peace Corps. In turn, the UW graduate program qualified me to be a Park Service Ranger and Interpretive-Naturalist for three seasons at Mount Rainier National Park. Upon completing my masters, I was hired by the Forestry Department of the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), Brazil. After three years, UFV sent me to NCSU where I completed a PhD in the School of Forest Resources (1980-1983). I had a 38-year career at UFV, retiring as Professor. The PC experience 1) made possible a career in forestry, 2) allowed me to become fluent first in Spanish and then make an easy transition to Portuguese, 3) find a lovely South American wife (Brazilian), 4) live in Brazil for 44 years (so far), and 5) do consulting in several Latin American countries.
