Mark Schmidt worked in Forestry Reforestation programs in coastal hills north of Concepcion, Chile, working out of the Quirihue office. He also helped establish pine nurseries on larger fundos. He did not continue in forestry after PC service. He writes: ”Ironically, my experience as a volunteer and as a traveler in Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela left me less supportive of aid missions. I left Chile believing that “help" should be limited to educating/training and that real change comes when people help themselves. My Spanish and the PCV-acquired cultural awareness enabled me to pursue ten years of work in international business projects in Latin America, Europe and Asia.
