Mike DeVine worked in Chile on Nursery management, Reforestation, Forest Management, Forest Fire Patrols, Burning Permit Process streamlining, Urban tree planting, and Erosion control education. He did not pursue a career in forestry after returning, but believes that the PC experience influenced him to enter a helping profession. He writes: “As I was gathering people into a new spanish-speaking church, I was motivated at the heart, by a desire to return the hospitality I received in South America. Before PC, I had been responding to a call to ordained ministry - which continued afterwards - I was ordained an Episcopal Priest. However, my prime ministry after ordination was in planting new Hispanic Congregations in the Episcopal Church - a direct result of my PC experience.”
