Nick Dale states that he served as a Generalist, working on Reforestation, Soil Erosion Prevention, and Forest Fire Prevention. “While living in an impoverished region ( a Mapuche area in Cautin), I became focused on food production/agriculture and left behind my BA major in Latin American history. Association with SAG helped mold this interest. Returning to the US I changed fields, finally getting a PH.D. in agriculture. It is 100% the case (that PC affected my life choices). I lost a lot of weight living in a ruca with Mapuches, and now recognize how deficient our diet was. I've since thought a lot about the family I lived with...and how I could have used my living allowance to better their diet. This directly influenced my returning to school, and basically starting. Experience in Latin America, a knowledge of Spanish, and familiarity with rural issues have been essential in developing a successful career in international agriculture. I have traveled professionally numerous times to all countries in Latin America... including Cuba, excluding Uruguay, and acquired a wife in Ecuador!
